MBC is not called ‘Drama Empire’ no reason at all.
Nowadays, there is another original work that commonly found in Movies or TV dramas. In other words, the originality of work is becoming increasingly scarce. Let’s think about “The winter, wind blows” is aired on SBS in the same time. Talented writer Noh Hee-kyeong has even borrowed story from a Japanese novel “I don’t need love (愛なんていらねえよ、夏) ”. Also, “IRIS II” is a TV drama IRIS ‘s spinoff that was aired on KBS. In this way, TV drama with original work is appeal to more than the other. Probably because proven work can remain stable to rating. Indeed, is it stable? According to an audience rating survey company AGB Nielsen on 14 February, the rating was dispersing into these three dramas, and left each a record a little more than 12%. That is not good grades in the light of writer’s popularity and public attention.
MBC drama ‘Level 7 Civil Servants’ have been making film with the same concept in 2009. It was writer Cheon Seong-il who wrote movie script at that time. Writer Cheon is rare case that wrote both the screenplay and TV script. In the movie industry that high and dry, the screenplay writer go to the TV station a few years ago. It seems that writer Cheon successfully crossover by TV drama “Chuno”.
The biggest attraction of TV drama ‘Level 7 Civil Servant’ is not like quality or fun or narrative style. The most attractive of this work that I have chosen is palatable ‘lines’. It seems good to compare with writer Kim Su-hyeon who called ‘a alchemist of language’. In the meantime, TV drama solved story by “Lines” unlike movie, because of limited space and time constraints. Of course, it has been important that TV drama treat ‘image’ from the 90s, and as a result, progress to something with “Lines” was considered countrified. Writers who wrote fabulous or excess lines was considered outdated. In this stream of time, his talent (?) or style(?) is amazing. Especially, considering what he passed from the TV station to the film industry.
Some people may be dissatisfied with this way. It may seem to be against the current of time that was preferred TV drama such as movie. However, I think that to save the line is to save the charming of TV drama. Nowadays, TV mini series that was injected large amount of capital made like a movie. Storyline, lighting, narrative, directing, speed… I would like to say that TV broadcasts its own advantages and attractive. Nevertheless the final is obviously expected, intolerable addictive without seeing the next episode comes from the strength of story and characters. And the ‘lines’ plays an important role to show the strength.
There is no room that imagine in the image. I mention it because, Hollywood movie that said “Shows more than you might imagine.” very uninteresting nowadays. It is difficult to imagine that if their everything all shown. The attraction of TV drama is sense of lines that fill the lack of imagine.
So, I want to give generous score to this TV drama that have good lines.

주요줄거리 :
신입 국정원요원이 된 김서원과 한길로. 서로를 좋아하게 되지만 한길로는 연수기간 중에 쫓겨난다. 범죄조직과 연류된 한길로 아버지의 정보를 얻기 위해서 국정원에서는 쫓겨난 한길로에게 아버지를 미행하라는 가짜 임무를 맡긴다. 한길로는 자신이 진짜 요원이 된 줄로 알고 이제부터 국정원에게 이용당하게 된다.
한길로와 연수기간 전부터 좋지 않은 악연으로 얽히던 김서원은 한길로의 회사에 위장 취업한다. 김서원은 방송국 취업시험을 준비하려고 국정원을 그만두었다고 속이고 한길로에게 접근한다. 둘은 서로의 존재를 숨긴채 만남을 가진다. 한편, 이들을 위협하는 범죄조직은 국정원에 이용만 당하고 죽은 자들의 자식들이 성인이 되어 결성한 단체다. 대한민국이라면 이를 가는 이들은 자신들의 부모가 죽도록 방치한 국가, 그리고 사건과 연류된 국정원 요원들을 암살하기 위해서 한길로의 아버지에게 접근한다. 이 단체의 목표는 산업체 특허가 아니라, 이들을 잡기 위해서 나타나는 국정원 요원들이다.
처음 만났을 때부터 한번도 한길로에게 거짓말만 계속했던 김서원은 임무와 사랑사이에서 갈등하고, 각각 신입 국정원 요원들도 또한, 국가의 신성한 임무와 개인의 양심에서 갈등하는 상황이 하나씩 발생하게 되는데. . .

MBC가 괜히 드라마왕국이라고 불리는게 아니다.
요즘 영화나 TV드라마에서 공통적으로 발견되는 현상들은 원작이 따로 존재한다는 것이다. 즉, 독창성이 점점 떨어지고 있다. SBS에서 같은 시간대에 방영되는 ‘그 겨울, 바람이 분다’의 경우를 보자. 그 난다 긴다던 노희경 작가도 일본원작 ‘사랑따윈 필요없어 (愛なんていらねえよ、夏)’를 차용한다. KBS에서 방영되는 ‘아이리스 II’ 는 그전에 방영되는 것의 후속작이다. 이렇게 원작이 있는 작품을 선호하는 이유는 아무래도 한번 검증된 것이 시청률을 안정적이게 유지한다는데 있다. 과연 안정적인가? 2월14일자 AGB닐슨사의 시청률에 따르면 세가지 드라마에 골고루 시청률이 분산되어 각각12% 조금 상회하는 기록을 남겼다. 작가나 PD들의 유명세와 세간의 관심에 비하면 좋은 성적은 아니다.
MBC에서 방영되는 TV드라마 ‘7급 공무원’은 2009년에 한차례 같은 컨셉으로 영화화된 적이 있다. 그당시 영화의 시나리오를 맡았던 사람도 천성일 작가다. 천성일 작가는 영화시나리오도 쓰고 TV극본도 집필하는 보기드문 사례(?)다. 죽을래야 먹고 죽을 것도 없는 영화판에서 시나리오작가들의 방송행은 수년 전부터 조용히 이루어지고 있다. 천성일 작가는 TV드라마 ‘추노’로 성공적으로 크로스오버한 것으로 보인다.
‘7급 공무원’ 드라마의 가장 큰 강점은 작품성, 재미, 내러티브 같은 게 아니다. 내가 꼽는 이 작품의 최대 매력은 바로 입에 착착감기는 ‘대사’이다. 언어의 연금술사라고 칭함을 받은 ‘김수현’ 작가에 견주어도 좋을 듯싶다. 영화와 달리 TV드라마는 한정된 공간과 시간적인 제약 때문에 그동안 스토리를 ‘대사’로 많이 풀어왔었다. 물론 90년대부터 드라마도 ‘영상’을 중요시 여기게 되었고, 그 결과 대사로 뭔가를 진행하는 것은 촌스런 일로 치부되기도 했다. 멋진 대사와 과잉대사를 써대는 작가들은 ‘구닥다리’ 취급을 받기도 했다. 이런 흐름 속에서 천성일작가의 재능(?)혹은 방식(?)은 놀랍다. 특히나 그가 영화계에서 방송계로 넘어온 것을 보면은 더욱 그렇다.
혹자는 대사로 뭔가를 하는 방식에 불만이 있을 수도 있다. 영화 같은 드라마를 선호하는 요즘 시대를 역행하는 것처럼 보일 수도 있다. 하지만 나는 대사를 살리는 것이 결과적으로 드라마의 매력을 살렸다고 본다. 요즘의 자본이 많이 투입되는 TV미니시리즈물은 영화처럼 찍는다. 스토리, 조명, 화법, 연출, 빠른 속도감… 하지만 나는 TV 방송물은 그만의 장점과 매력이 있다고 말하고 싶다. 어떻게 보면 결말이 보이지만 다음회를 보지 않고서는 두 다리를 뻗고 자기 힘든 그 중독성은 바로 이야기의 힘과 그것을 이끄는 캐릭터의 힘이다. 그리고 그 이야기와 캐릭터를 보여 주는데는 대사가 주요부분을 차지한다.
영상에는 상상의 여지가 없다. 내가 이렇게 말하는 것은 ‘당신이 상상하는 것 이상을 보여준다’는 헐리우드 영화가 요즘에는 재미가 없기 때문이다. 좀 적당히 숨기고 가릴건 가려야 머리속으로 상상을 하든지 말든지 할게 아닌가. TV 드라마의 매력은 영상의 부족함을 채우는 바로 대삿발에 있다고 감히 주장한다. 아무래도 멍하니 보게되는 멋진 화면들보다는 상상하며 듣는 라디오의 맛이라고나 할까.그래서, 대삿발이 좋은 이 드라마에게 후한 점수를 주고 싶다.
